CBUS super is the industry superannuation fund for the construction, building, infrastructure and allied industries. CBUS’ Trustee approached Soundmask seeking a solution to speech privacy and noise problems in its head office.
The problem
The original issue that brought CBUS super to Soundmask was the boardroom. The boardroom was lined with wood panelling and located right next to the reception area. The client had attempted to create acoustic privacy by packing the ceiling cavity with with acoustic insulation. Unfortunately, this didn’t help, and the sound leakage meant that anyone in the reception waiting area could hear private conversations.
Similarly, there were meeting rooms within the open plan area where private conversations were clearly audible from outside. Further, the open plan office area was filled with distracting noise. This can decrease staff productivity and increase workplace stress and health problems. As such, the client wanted to ensure that its staff could work in a comfortable acoustic environment.
The solution
Soundmask installed a Soundmask system that reached throughout the entire level, solving CBUS’ speech privacy problems and ensuring that CBUS minimises its workers’ noise-related stress levels. Later, Soundmask installed additional masking throughout the second level to ensure an even spread of sound throughout the entire fit out.
